Face2Face Educational Trust

The Art Studio has been the main community Face2Face project over the past year. Based in the heart of a residential area in Thetford, the Charles Burrell Centre provides the ideal location for Kevin to set up and build the relational ministry with children, young people, adults and families. Kevin uses his artistic skills and chess playing skills to develop with a wide age range from 6-80 years of age each week. Over the year the work has evolved with the addition of new classes reaching new people. Drawing and painting courses have been launched and life-drawing classes are now run weekly. Between 40-50 people attend the classes per week. The work is exciting and creative and there are many positive testimonies of students being encouraged in their confidence and artistic development.

Norwich Cathedral Diocesan Educational Week

The educational special week in Norwich Cathedral proved to be a popular week where Kevin worked creatively as part of the team serving 300 children a day from across 30 Church of England schools across Norfolk. Kevin ran the art workshop and the theme of the week was the three persons of the Trinity as demonstrated at the time of the baptism of Jesus. The educational week reached out to 1500 children in the course of the week. Each day after attending three workshops and a packed lunch, the children would assemble for a corporate worship service involving different ingredients including a dance to music, school prayers and a message presented in different ways.

Church Ministry

Face2Face has been involved in a dozen Churches across the region in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Kent. Kevin has preached, led all-age services, ran youth work, children’s clubs, spoken at midweek meetings and facilitated games events to all-ages. The ministry to Churches continues to compliment the work of Face2Face Educational Trust. Kevin recently was the speaker at a Church weekend to a ladies meeting, followed the next day by an evangelistic men’s breakfast.

Checkmate and Sketchpad Residentials

In August, Kevin led two Face2Face residential holidays for 9-17 year olds at the Chellington Centre in Bedfordshire. A team of volunteers with a heart for young people, support Kevin in the running of the holidays. The weather proved to be gorgeous and the young people enjoyed the specialist holidays in art and chess. Sketchpad reflects artistically the beauty of the area and captures landscapes, architecture, wildlife, life drawing, portraiture and lots more. Checkmate develops chess play, logic solving & decision-making skills, powers of concentration and friendships across the country. The residential weeks are action-packed holidays for young people, filled with games and activities, excellent meals and good friendships. Each day begins with an interactive Bible devotion and prayer. Trips are organized to the Harold Odell Country Park and to the local recreational park for some field games, followed by the village shop for some confectionary. A campfire with marsh-mellows and glow-sticks is always a great evening with lots of laughter.

Chess Ministry

Kevin has developed a unique chess ministry by taking chess out onto Thetford High Street on the first Saturday of the month from March to September. Kevin sets up in the forecourt of King Street Baptist Church in the heart of Thetford town centre and takes on all-comers from King Street.

The Christian Vision for men weekend at the end of June gave Kevin the opportunity to run a chess ministry during the free session on Saturday afternoon. Kevin gave out the Checkmate chess gospel booklet he had written and illustrated to each contestant. The CVM 2016 weekend reached out to 2500 men in a field near Swindon and although a wet weekend, the chess proved to be a popular ingredient under the cover of a giant marquee.
