KEVIN’S SUMMER DIARY

Kevin organized a fun Face2Face art day at Assington Hall in Suffolk on Saturday, June 28th. The adults and young people attending from Thetford and Southend could explore the grounds and produce one or two pieces of work in the day. We took lunch around 1pm and did a life drawing exercise as a group drawing each other. The experience was a very positive one and many are keen to return next year. On route home we proceeded through some flooded roads and wandered initially if there was a burst pipe! It turned out that a lot of East Anglia had had torrential rain and a raging thunderstorm! We were spared such adverse weather and was able to be out much of the day. The grounds include splendid 400 year old trees, sheep, lamas, goats, geese, ducks, rabbits and an old country church.

For those reading this who might be interested in a regular art class that Kevin runs called Sketchclub in Thetford on Thursday evenings, please get in touch. Kevin also is leading the young people art residential holiday called Sketchpad for 6 days in August. A few places remain if you are interested.

Kevin ran several hours of games for families in the Chelmsford open air event at Melbourne park with vicar Paul Greenland and helpers from the local church on Saturday, July 5th. These included sack races, parachute games and a visual input. The weather had been fine rain in the morning and on arrival but stopped 30 minutes before Kevin was due to start at 1pm. God is good, all the time! The event was part of 3 days of events linked with the Tour de France event with 300 cyclists passing the church on Chignall Road. The day before Kevin had been at the Great Horkesley youth event for Wired. This was a lovely evening around the outdoor swimming pool, BBQ and good food and was a fitting end to a good year of youth work with the church, St. Mary the Virgin at West Bergholt.

The classic sack race, they just love it, children too!

I realize that I have gained great expertise in running all sorts of creative games & activities for children, young people and families so if you are reading this and want to book me to come and do a family event or a specific youth or children’s event then do get in touch. I weave the spiritual inputs into the event so people can learn whilst having great fun.

Jonah was one of five biblical stories Kevin presented at Groundbreakers in Brentwood. This meant a lot to him as the prophet Jonah’s tomb had only recently been blown up by terrorists in Mosul, Iraq. Jonah had obeyed the word of the Lord and taken the message of repentance to Nineveh, just near Mosul. It looks to me that the message of repentance needs to be heard again in many parts of the world today!

After the team devotional bible study on Hezekah, one team member shared how blessed he had been and how much he had received. He went home and said to his wife you must come tomorrow. She spoke to me after the bible study on Jesus the following day and shared how she had been blessed. I was aware of others too who had learned new things from our times together. I felt that I was led to bring out some of the meat from the Bible passage each day The mission clearly was used to touch adults, young people in their teenage years and children in the sessions, encouraging stuff. Please pray as I pack for two young people residentials. The pic shows my friend, Abie, a young helper who served at Groundbreakers. She is on placement from Zambia over the summer and it was good to hear of the positive work God is doing in that African country.

I am now back home after 3 weeks of summer missions in Essex and Northamptonshire where I have been running a church based mission in Brentwood and two resdential holidays for young people. They all went very well, with a good time had by all. I will add more to this post in due course but for now here are a few pics. I will add information in September and more shots. I wanted to post a big THANK YOU to those who prayed for me during this time and to those supporters who help sponsor the ministry of Face2Face Trust, it is most appreciated.

An exciting art display was put together for families at the end of Sketchpad, here are some of my pieces done during the week in conte, graphite, watercolour pencils, lead pencils and pen. Students from 9-18 years of age were stretched, educated, encouraged in their art awareness, expression and performance in the context of God’s amazing creation surrounding the centre.

The Ranger of the Harold Odell Country Park set an exciting Scavenger Hunt that was most enjoyed. Richard later shared a gem about a thistle plant containing a small caterpillar that turns into a moth in the weeks to come.

This field next to the Country Park is ripe for harvest. During the summer we looked at Biblical teaching that covered Old and New Testament stories, including heaven, angels, prophecy, dreams and visions and the life of Jesus. At Sketchpad we looked at a presentation of the life of Christ from the best art pieces of over 50 master artists plus some of Kevin’s work. Some team were put on the ‘hot seat’ and the young people could ask them questions about their lives. At Checkmate, the young leaders also had an opportunity to share.

What a fab summer!

After 3 weeks on the road leading a church based mission in Brentwood and two residential holidays it will be good to rest up a bit and recuperate before the autumn comes. The summer has been very enjoyable with many friends made, games led, art expressed, biblical teaching given and lots of fun experienced. Behind the scenes there has been a lot of hard work to make it go so well. Thank you too to all those unseen supporters who pray consistently and practically support the ministry of Face2Face Educational Trust. Your prayers and support, physically and financially enable this ministry to continue and me to use my giftings in art and chess, in speaking and relating to different age groups from children, young people through to adults. THANK YOU
