Chess Ministry
Kevin is has developed a chess ministry that engages with many folk from all ages. A recent tournament had 90 players competing from 5-80 years of age. He has also set up a community club & runs a school based club each week. After several years of the community club, the Lord gave Kevin the vision for Checkmate, a Christian residential for young people to develop chess play & interactive bible studies that make clear links with chess.
When I started the community chess club in Thetford in January 2001 I could not see the steps ahead or quite where things would lead. After several years of faithfully running the midweek club the Holy Spirit started to inspire the idea of a Christian residential for young people. Several years later it became a reality in August 2008. Now having done many years of Checkmates I believe the holiday offers a unique time of sharpening chess skills & learning from the Bible. Kevin has written & illustrated the booklet called Checkmate & is an available resource, details in the resources section.
Kevin is interested to hear from any churches interested in exploring chess as an outreach tool into their community.
He is presently available to respond to bookings from schools in running after school clubs.
Chess proved popular and gave men the chance to test mental disciplines along side the comradery of a great weekend of fellowship. In the backdrop the Euros were taking place with Wales winning 1-0. #TG16 #CVM
Kevin offered and facilitated the chess ministry at the Christian Vision For Men weekend in a field near Swindon in June 2016, where 2300+ men had gathered for a weekend of fellowship, Christian teaching and worship. During the free time period, Kevin ran a popular chess ministry by taking on many men over a number of chess boards. Kevin gave each of his opponents a Chess Gospel to take home and awarded three chess trophies.
