Sports Evangelism
This year promises to be an amazing year of sport. The Champions League provided much drama with Chelsea winning the trophy that has eluded them over the years with a dramatic 4-3 win in the penalty shoot out in Munich. The Olympic torch is now on day 3 of its tour around the 70 towns & cities of the UK prior to the games beginning on July 27th. Our screens & stadiums will be full of sporting activities.
Wimbledon is not far away as the French Open is now underway, so get ready for ‘Murray mania’ & McEnroe’s pragmatic commentary. Let’s hope for a major upturn in the weather, otherwise it will be overcoats & umbrellas instead of strawberries & cream! And the cricketers will try & complete Test matches & get results despite the showers, yesterday, I heard the West Indian cricketers had towels on their heads to keep themselves warm!
Who was it that mentioned Global Warming, feels more like Global Cooling?!
On the ministry front, I can offer with my a decent knowledge of sport, a sport based evening as a games & quiz evening suitable for young people or pitched at children & families or I can offer a team based outdoors afternoon, physically active & great fun. I can offer a sports based all-age service or a sports based mission weekend tailored to your church requirements. If you are interested in any of these areas do get in touch. My problem is that I am on Sabbatical leave over the summer so will be available from September for these bookings. If your church wanted a holiday club on a sports theme I can offer RACERUNNERS in 2013. RACERUNNERS is a holiday club/mission programme that looks at people who run the race of faith from the Bible coupled with some contemporary examples. If you are interested in using sport as an evangelistic tool do get in touch.
Kevin is a decent badminton player & swimmer & recently completed a mile charity swim in the national Swimathon. He was an active club cricketer in Kent for Lordswood & an enthusiastic all rounder in his school. He went on to Captain Medway under 19’s & in his cricket years played against Dilley, Miandad & Benson who all went on to play international cricket for their countries. He played with Steve Marsh as a colt who became keeper & Kent Captain. He put together a church cricket team that went on to win against a number of church teams & some club teams including Sherwood CC & The Kings School. He used to open the bowling for his high school first team & once took a hat trick of wickets in the first three balls of a match!
Kevin enjoys sport, he avidly supports Chelsea football club along with his son James. Over the years has enjoyed Federer’s classic backhand; McEnroe’s commentary; England’s resurgence in the world of cricket & listening to Aggers & co on Test Match Special. He has been inspired by Michael Phelps as an outstanding Olympian & record gold medal winner & of course the inimitable sprinter, Usain Bolt. In lesser known sports like squash by the super fit & ultra determined Nick Matthew. He appreciates professionalism at its highest level, the standard epitomised by Sir Steve Redgrave & Lord Sebastian Coe, who between them won seven Olympic gold medals.
