Students Blossom
Students of all ages from children to adults come and create at The Art Studio. Creative expression is encouraged and nurtured, helping people develop & gain confidence & produce regular artwork. As they do the standard of their work improves on a monthly basis & this often helps build confidence in other areas of their lives. Students come from Thetford and beyond in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Students will often work individually with my supervision, everyone is at a different stage so this is a good way for them to create. Quite often there will be constructive comment from me and students will also comment on each others work. Sometimes group activities are organised such as 30-60 minutes of life drawing for students interested.
Students work with different media with advice from me regarding tools they can best use. People go on an artistic adventure and discover new things, we are all learning and developing.
The standard of work improves as the standard bar increases. I help develop students by taking them out of their comfort zone and push them to achieve a higher standard. Students continually improve and get to the stage when they have their own framed work on display in their own houses.
Come along and see for yourself, you will not regret it. Some students come to me later on in life having suppressed their artistic talent for many years, I encourage them and nurture their artistic expression. The students blossom like flowers if they work at it and for me it is a joy to see.
We have a fun time, good chat, music, banter, humour, encouragement, we need this in these times of shaking. Art is clearly a therapeutic activity that can be enjoyed by people of all-ages. I have had students in their nineties come and enjoy creating and under fives with their parents. Artistic expression helps to release our thoughts, our emotions, our creativity, it’s a healthy activity to build into your life as Brian and Steve will testify, either side of me.
One lady came and regularly said, “I am useless, I can’t do anything.” I said to her, “you are not useless, you are special.” I got her to practice saying it any time she made a mistake, until the coin dropped. I found over the months that she was the most expert pencil sharpener. Commended her for her creations and have now a large tin for her to put her shavings in for me to do a piece of artwork from in the future.
I am an encourager, a coach, a mentor, a people person, to build up, to nurture forward. I’m also a practitioner, so students can see me producing fresh artwork per week. This is important, as it exudes confidence to people, they see what you can do, they respect that. I constantly push myself to achieve high standards in my work, to get the best out of each subject. I think creatively, that is the way I am made. I pass on something of this to my students, I gently push them to achieve higher standards, I discuss constructively their work, commending them and offering suggestions as to how aspects can develop. Over the years, I have seen many flowers open and go on to do lovely things.
