Online Teaching In South Africa, Nepal and England
Kevin has been teaching since the summer in the Alpha Bible school in Nepal. This is via an interpreter called Roshan and communicates to students from across Nepal. Kevin has also been facilitating bible study and prayer meetings with people from across England since the first lockdown in 2020. Every Wednesday evening there is a quality time of fellowship and teaching and on Friday mornings there is a Prayer for the Nation[s] event. We spend time praying for Ukraine and other nations including the United Kingdom and people in need or unwell. We also meet on Sunday evenings online and support and encourage each other.
In addition Kevin has been doing a lot of online art teaching over recent years for adults and children. This has been a particular benefit for children in South Africa and Nepal who wouldn’t normally have access to such teaching and encouragement in their art expression. Kevin demonstrates alongside them and often the subject themes are selected by the children.
Art can be very therapeutic, educational and inspiring. We learn about the subject and often discuss different cultures in the group. Children are encouraged to work on their artwork between lessons, the lessons are normally a couple of hours and Kevin is flexible to start early to accommodate time differences. Some of the artworks have been produced as cards and postcards and are available to purchase to support the work of Face2Face Educational Trust and the work of The Art Studio. These can be viewed on the F2F website, see cards and postcards.
A recent lesson was based on ice and frost. I supply photographic reference material for the students and together we create the artwork inspired by the reference material. There is always artistic licence to develop your picture choosing the way you do it and the colours used. The students see me working in The Art Studio in Thetford through the screen. We have gallery shows every 20-30 minutes to discuss how we are progressing. We have also tackled King Charles 111 and lots of animals too.
Some pieces will take 2-3 lessons as we develop the standard and details. Some themes require different techniques and tools to achieve the task. We use a variety of tools including watercolours, charcoal, pencils and pastels. The turtle has a challenge within, how many fish can you see?
The finished artwork has been produced as a card and large postcard and has a lot more to find and are available to order.
